Taster Session No.2 - Laser Cutter

Our second taster session of the term in the Barbara Hepworth Building was with Steven and the laser cutters. Much the same as the print room, the taster session was in place so that we could familiarise ourselves with the machines and also the system in place for if we would like something cut.

Figure 1 and Figure 2 show each of the materials that can be used on the laser cutter. Steven went through the prices per A0 or A1 sheet of each material and the positive/negatives of cutting or engraving on each.

Figure 3 and Figure 4 are photos of the laser cutting room and the machines themselves. To use the cutters, we have to email Steven our Illustrator files with red lines that engrave the material and black to engrave and he will sort the cutting. This is because the machines are so powerful and dangerous, you need to be trained use them safely and correctly.
